Video: Importing and Trusting Medicare Australia PKI Certificates in Thunderbird.

  1. Launch Thunderbird
  2. Select Tools, then Options from the Menu.
  3. Click on Advanced (cogwheel) in the Options dialog box.
  4. Choose Certificates Tab in Advanced Options
  5. Press the View Certificates Button in Certificates Pane
  6. Choose Authorities Tab in Certificate Manager
  7. Press the Import Button in Certificate Manager
  8. Select the Medicare Australia Root CA.cer
  9. Tick checkbox to Trust CA for email, View to confirm details, OK to finish Importing
  10. Scroll down in Authorities Tab to see GOV Section; Press Import Button again
  11. Select the Medicare Australia Organisation CA.cer
  12. Tick checkbox to Trust CA for email, View to confirm details, OK to finish Importing
  13. OK - you have Imported and Trusted the Medicare Australia Certificates!

Why do you have to import 2 Medicare Certificates? Chain of Trust. Medicare Root Certificate signs Medicare Organisation Certificate signs Your Certificate.

  1. Press the Revocation Lists Button in Certificates Pane
  2. Press the Import Button in Manage CRLs dialog
  3. Copy the CRL location:
    http://www.certificates-australia.com.au/cgi-bin/getcrl_health.pl?DN=cn%3DMedicare%20Australia%20Organisation%20Certification%20Authority%2Cou%3DMedicare%20Australia%2Co%3DGOV%2Cc%3DAU
    You can find this listed under CRL Distrubution Points in any Medicare-issued Certifate’s Details, and copy it from there, good security practice to avoid trusting this website.
  4. Paste the CRL location into the text box
    Paste into the text box.
  5. Yes. Automatic update will prevent you relying on a revoked certificate for more than 48 hours.
  6. Tick to Enable Automatic Update for this CRL
  7. Press the Revocation Lists Button in Certificates Pane
  8. Visible only after you Close and re-open Revocation Lists
